Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School: GORE

BLOOD-SOAKED BURLESQUE & LIFE DRAWING

WARNING: This month's session is NOT for the faint of heart.

The Sketchy Girls of Christchurch are all set to get their gore on. Tawdry Trainwreck will embrace disgusting, horrid themes and then smother them with blood, guts, and fishnets. Gracie Hart will be terrorised and torn apart in Tawdry's attempts to create the perfect woman for you to draw.

To further titillate your sick little minds, there will be a special performance by skindependent. Hooks will be sharp, flesh will be quivering, spines will be tingling.

This is a life drawing class like no other. Drinking! Drawing! Debauchery! Meat! Flesh! Blood! Boobs!

It's a wonder that our sponsors let us get away with this depravity. So be sure to show your support to Madam Butterfly’s Vintage Style Boutique, Absolution and The Flying Burrito Brothers.

We would like to advise there is no photography at this event. BYO drawing materials, and some red ink, to portray our models and all that blood.

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School: GORE.

Thursday 28 October, 2010 at Goodbye Blue Monday.

Doors 6.30pm. First pose 7.30pm.

Tickets $10 plus booking fee.

Pre-sales available from Thursday 21 October from Cosmic Corner High Street or online via Cosmic Ticketing.

IV: Bacchanalian Night of Revelry

After a month of disaster, ruin and hundreds (no, really hundreds!) of aftershocks we were all ready for some uplifting sketchy revelry. The luscious demigoddess Lucille L'amour played muse for our hedonistic art monkeys in attendance.

The wine was flowing (as well as the Bodgie Beer for those more hops-inclined) to encourage indulgent misbehavior and toga staining.

Ms. Rosie Reckless cavorts with a myseterious trader from The East, what wonders does she bring to the table?

MC Hells Belle channelled the gorgon medusa and transfixed the audience with her many snakey gazes.

The devine Lucille L'amour

Debauched noblewoman, entrancing vision and feast for our art monkeys eyes... Lucille L'amour performs her routine to Grecian lounge music.

Our sketchers were adorned with vine wreaths and bedazzling jewels. They were affectionately harassed by the mischievous satyr in attendance - Billy Goat Elliot. He spent the night capering about Goodbye Blue Monday, tooting on pan-pipes and spreading merriment.

Lucille managed to escape without getting her leg humped by that rascally Billy. No mean feat!

Headmistress Tawdry Trainwreck shocked us all by keeping most of her body clad this eve. She'll be sure to make up for that at next month's Dr. Sketchy's… because our next event will be all about the GORE.

We are very happy to announce that all of our sponsors survived le shakes and lent their support, as ever, to our night of sordid art practice. Many thanks to the Flying Burrito Brothers, Absolution Tattoo and Body Piercing and Madame Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique - we adore you! Another big thanks to our wonderful art monkeys for turning up - more in togas on a Thursday night in Crimeschurch than one would expect - and making this event brilliant.

For a more in depth catalogue of our Greco-Roman escapades, find us on the Dr Sketchy.com hub site or on facebook under Dr Sketchy's Christchurch. Until next time!

Dr. Sketchy's IV: Bacchanalia! A Night of Ancient Revelry

Sketchy Citizens!

Thousands of years ago, in the time of the toga, the ancient people of Greece and Rome would gather in groves and celebrate, often for days on end.

With our city in ruins around us, we have the perfect excuse for hedonistic excess. Join us for a night of bacchanalian revelry, where we'll invoke the gods of wine and indulgence. We'll partake in sketching rituals and draw upon ancient myths and legends.

Speaking of legends, our toga clad muse and performer is Lucille L'Amour. Her burlesque theatrics will surely please the gods, sparing our city from further decay. Come to drink, to draw … and to worship her.

This is a life drawing class like no other. Drinking! Drawing! Debauchery!

This event is possible because our sponsors make special sacrifices for us: Absolution Tattoo & Body Piercing, Madam Butterfly’s Vintage Style Boutique, and The Flying Burrito Brothers.

Doors open 6.30pm. Our first pose is at 7.30pm. Get in early for the best sketching spot.

Tickets $10 plus booking fee. Pre-sales available from Wednesday 22 September from Cosmic Corner High Street or online via Cosmic Ticketing.

We would like to advise there is no photography at this event. BYO drawing materials so you can document all our models and creatures.

Frilly Knicker Fundraiser

Here in Christchurch we are running themed events that are a twisted and alternative take on life drawing. Our models are sexy burlesque performers and once a month we gather to drink and to draw. We keep our ticket prices low ($10) and don't aim to make a profit.

But now, we've run up debt with the frilly knicker shop! Uh-oh! So it's time to do some fundraising.

Talented Christchurch artist Gussie Fenton has kindly donated this artwork. Gussie Fenton is known for painting strong, sexy female figures and has been inspired by the antics of Dr. Sketchy's to create a punky yet sweet character named Cupcake. Her striking colours have been created with acrylics and she measures 71 x 56cm.

Quake

Fellow Sketchy fiends,
Our city was hit by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake early on Saturday 4th September. We're pleased to report there were no fatalities (with the exception of one of the zoo's lemurs) and all of the sketchy crew are intact.

Some of our local Art Monkeys have been badly affected. Many have lost their homes, and it's sad to see some of Christchurch's iconic historic buildings in ruins. Some areas are battling broken sewage pipes and contaminated water supplies. It's not safe to drink from the tap so we're sensibly sticking to alcohol.

Our beloved hosts, Goodbye Blue Monday, have withstood the tremors with all their whiskey safe and sound. This part of the city is badly shaken up (hrrmm?!). The CBD is still cordoned off but initial reports suggest that GBM should be back to business hopefully by the weekend.

Sponsors Absolution and The Flying Burrito Brother's have also withstood the rumble. We're waiting anxiously to hear how Madam Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique have fared.

Our next event is scheduled for Thursday 23rd September. We're pretty sure all will go ahead as planned but will update you if this changes.

Kia kaha to all in Christchurch. Thanks for all your support - we loved getting a checkup message from Molly. *purrr!*

The Punk Set Rocked!

We put the PUNK back into SPUNK with our third sketchy session. Riotous models Ruby Ruin and Princess Profanity were our rockstars of the evening. There was enough tartan, safety pins and bad attitudes to make the Queen Mother shudder.

Ruby Ruin kicked off the night with a knock out performance - in true burlesque fashion she titillated us with a reverse striptease behind a custom-made screen before launching into proper punk mode...

We loosened the crowd up by telling them to shove it in their gobs! There were some definite masterpieces, but we wonder if the people using chalk pastels enjoyed this challenge... eurrrgh, not so tasty?

Sketchys girls say "UP YOURS!"

Nothin' but trouble these punks! They soon stormed the stage to let their aggression out on our models. A four minute art monkeys brawl... in extreme slow motion...

Ruby and Princess model for our third sketchy session (another full house!).

Our models bonded over music...

Our models/rockstars played with instruments.

One art monkey incurred the wrath of our headmistress, Tawdry Trainwreck, when he came dressed a f*¢k!n hippie and insisted on drawing sunrises, rolling hills. He then had the cheek to nominate himself for best-dressed award... "Take that, hippy!"

Tawdry, ever envious of Rosie's curls tries to make her own – punk DIY ethos... what would Vivienne Westwood think?

"Taaa-daaaa!" Ruby was very happy about her breasts' sketchy debut.

Ruby Ruin is a foxy, tattooed, roller derby gal. It was her burlesque debut in front of our enthusiastic sketchy crowd. You rocked it Ruby!

A intricately crafted guitar pinata was created just for the night, only for us to smash it to pieces! How rude are we!?!
Candy and cassette guts were hurled up, all over Goodbye Blue Monday's stage.

Guitars were smashed, boobs were drawn, beer was consumed... what an epic night!

Many thanks to our dedicated art monkeys and rockin' sponsors: Absolution Tattoo and Body Piercing, Madame Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique and The Flying Burrito Brothers.

For more incriminating photographic evidence, check out our photos on the main sketchy hub, or via facebook. Please feel free to comment. We love to hear your feedback and it helps to impress our international headmistress - Molly Crabapple.

Cash for Cupcake?

Local artist Gussie Fenton has kindly donated this painting to the Christchurch Sketchy Girls. We'd love to keep her for ourselves but we could really use some funds to create something spectacular for our upcoming shows.

We'll auction off 'Cupcake' at our next event – Dr. Sketchy's ANTI-Art School: The Punk Set.

Surely you all want us to have the frilliest and most flamboyant knickers to wear?!

We'd love to hear what you think of Cupcake.
Interested in placing a bid but can't be there? Just let us know.
