Halloween Spooktacular

We had plenty of tricks up our sleeve for our halloween session, and The Purple Rose provided the treats! She made a special trip from the far shores of Wellington to maker her Dr. Sketchy's debut. MC Rosie Reckless played host to our motley crew and kept things heading in the right vein.

Our art monkeys turned up in their undead best - what a dapper pair!

The Purple Rose stumbled into our monstrous enclave, her pristine tea-dress belying the arachnaphobic trick within!

The marvellous and multi-talented Rachael Travaille lent some of her monster bits and pieces to the mash. Check out more of her work - including some highly creative road-kill taxidermy, steampunk noir and star wars geekery projects.

Our second half introduced The Purple Rose's take on a familiar good time ghoul, serving up a bloody good time for all.

Things got messy. Just how we like it!

This devine deviant had us wanting to do real bad things with her *swoon*

Monster mash called for an exquisite corpse challenge!

With some hilarious outcomes.

The night was full of thrills, spills (courtesy of Ms. Trainwreck) and lots of laughs. The sugar rush of our candies were tempered by some of the more longlasting treats provided by our sponsors: Absolution Tattoo and Pierce, Madam Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique, Gordon Harris Art Supplies and international sponsor Baby Tattoo Books.

Make sure to check out the other adventures that The Purple Rose got up to while in the South - she was part of Nerdlesque; a  comic caberet put together by none other than Harlow Lestrange. It was a huge hit and we can't wait to see another episode!

Macho Madames and Femme Fellas

Our much anticipated Gender Blender theme was just the right mix of sugar and spice. Gender constructs were flouted and transgression was the order of the day! Art monkeys happily took a walk on the wild side - our audience was awash with fabulous facial hair, frocks and socks in all sorts of places. Miss Candy AppleBottom and the dashing Julio Juju made their joined debut on the sketchy stage, to the delight of us all.

What a pair! Our stars for the evening, Miss Candy AppleBottom and Mister Julio Juju.

Miss Candy AppleBottom was in her element! Already somewhat of a local legend, Candy runs a regular Cross Dressing Sunday event at our favourite portside watering hole The Wunderbar. If you're in Christchurch, head on down in your finest and join in the fun and fabulousness.

Miss AppleBottom ensnared us all with her her endless legs and magical loop pedal; even adding witty banter and flirtatious de-frocking to the mix.

Roguish yet refined; Julio Juju had us all a bit hot under the collar.

Dream date! The chemistry! The camaraderie! The combined hotness!

Rockin' the mo, like a pro! Julio set hearts a-fluttering with his macho mien.

Tawdry and Pimp Master of Ceremonies, Rosie Reckless admiring all the awesome.

Julio brought all the girls to the yard! The night was characterised by boogying, beer consumption and Village People songs.

Julio's ruse unravelled in the most delightful way!

The night was full of surprises!

There were bountiful beards and bodacious bottoms galore!

For one of our famous embellishment challenges, we encouraged our art monkeys to take
our stars facial hair to the next level!

A classic pose to end the night....

And what a peen-tastic night it was! There may even have been some serendipitious product placement by Absolution in the last pose..

A modelling match made in sketchy paradise; Julio and Candy's androgynous antics and perfect posing had us all enamoured. It was all captured by our keen eyed paparazzi - many thanks to Amy Lilley and Natasha Halliday!

Our prizes, as ever, hit the spot - many thanks to Absolution Tattoo and Pierce, Madam Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique, Gordon Harris Art Supplies and our international sponsor, Baby Tattoo Books.

Paperback Writher

Our literary themed session was a best seller, with art monkeys and literary buffs alike clamouring to see Brigitte de Brief take up the mantle of Sketchy muse. It was a night of prose, pose and pervalicious poetry that is definitely one for the books!

Brigitte de Brief, in whiskey-swigging-author-attire, had us hooked from the word go! We couldn't wait for her story to undress.. I mean, unfold.

For her first performance, Brigitte channeled every creative person who's taken to consulting the spirits after doing battle with a typewriter...

Whiskey, words and sayng no to pants - she's definitely one of us!

Birgitte sauntered between elegant sophisticate and paper-back writher so smoothly!

You can't spell literature without T&A!

Kimberly Holmes - our performance poet of choice - provided us with some lewd and lasvicious verse after the break. Her ode to the breakfast of champions left even Tawdry blushing!

Our haiku competition was a hit! There was a haiku lamenting the loss of 70's porno, a haiku re-incarnated as a non-conformist limmerick and seventeen syllables dedicated to Tawdry's... assets...

The winning haiku was written by Lily:

Swollen and sunken
Deep in the dark typewriter
Tap moan tap tap moan

With a special runner-up prize to Julia:

Little Bitty Briefs
Falling down around her feet
Oh naughty Tawdry.

Rosie Reckless calls upon our best dressed nominees. There were a pair of Sifty Shades of Grey(power), a very bookish boy in tweed, a very minxy Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and a witchy-poo muse to Edgar Allen Poe.Our art monkeys - so cultured!

Plato made a cameo; though it must have been hard to philosophise while book-ended by such bawdy beauties!

All pages turned to cooling-fans after Brigitte's second performance left us swooning!

 A masterpiece from all angles

No literary theme is complete without some Shakespearian drama. A pose to die for.

Books, boobs and burlesque! Poetry, prose and poses! All in all an alliteration saturated evening that left us wanting another dose of Brigitte - bring on the next chapter!

Many thanks to our ever awesome sponsors (get on down and bookmark their webpages!): Absolution Pierce and Tattoo, Madam Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique, Gordon Harris Art Supplies and our international sponsor Baby Tattoo Books.

We'll leave you with one last treat - a haiku by the Amy:

Spread your pages wide
So we can appreciate
your sweet tender prose

Bibliophily

Calling all cunning linguists,

The Christchurch chapter of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School present an evening of life drawing laced with literature. It's a night of bookish burlesque that's bound to get bawdy.

Brigitte de Brief stars as our prolific poet, producing prose after pose. She'll flash us some fiction and we'll inscribe her character in our sketchbooks.

Your hosts for the evening are well known authwhores Tawdry Trainwreck and Rose (by any other name would smell as sweet) Reckless.

Costumes are encouraged! Channel your favorite author, become an epic character, or perhaps dress like a book. We'll definitely check you out.

Bring along your own art supplies, including your sifty shades of grey.

Our sponsors are epic: Absolution Pierce and Tattoo, Madam Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique, Gordon Harris Art Supplies and international sketchy sponsor Baby Tattoo Books.

Second Birthday Burlesque Bash

June marked the second anniversary of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School in Christchurch. It's been a stupendous couple of years filled with breathtaking burlesque, scintillating sketching and large quantities of bawdy jokes, booze and boobs. Our birthday session was one big Party Party Party!

To get the party started and celebrate in style, crowd favourite and sketchy siren Gracie Hart paid us a special visit from the windy shores of Wellington.

Our stage set as well as the model looked good enough to eat!

You can have our cake and sketch it too! (But don't touch the shoes)

Best. Present. Ever.

The crowd was a festive one - donning glad rags, party hats and sketching up a storm!

For her first performance, Gracie sang a sultry number that got all our hearts thumping.

Gracie Hart: sugar and spice and all kinds of nice!

One of our embellishment challenges was to draw a portrait of your dream date on a balloon. Our prize winner got a bit more than he bargained for...

To prevent any peckish art monkeys from getting their nibble on, the wonderful Princess Pi baked us a giant batch of cupcakes. They went down a treat at half-time!

Gracie spoilt our crowd further when the time came for her second performance. Glow sticks for everyone! Glitter! And glowing body paint! After the second party-licious performance, we had our first ever pose in the dark! We encouraged the audience to take pause and try to capture the essence of the glowing hand prints Gracie had left, er, behind...

The sketchy girls and our rugged up art monkeys partied on at Smash Palace - where our old friends and hosts from Goodbye Blue Monday now ply beer and mulled wine from inside a bus! It was a great reunion of burlesque, bikes and a very ubiquitous can of whipped cream....

It's been a crazy, fabulous and rewarding couple of years. We owe many thanks to our loyal art monkeys, who have continued to give Tawdry an excuse to parade about in various states of undress, Rosie an outlet for her amazing drinking and design skills, and a multitude of performers a gig to showcase their talents and er, assets on a regular basis.

We'd also like to thank our brilliant sponsors for their ongoing support - they keep us inspired, excited and supplied with awesome prizes for every session. Show them some love and if you happen to pop on into their shops, let them know the Sketchy Girls sent you (with love) - Absolution Tattoo and Body Piercing, Madame Butterfly's Vintage Style Boutique, Gordon Harris Art Supplies and international sponsor Baby Tattoo Books.

Our sketchy shenanigans couldn't run like they do without the aid of minions, photographers, friends and cohorts - we'd like to acknowledge the many people who help Rosie and Tawdry each and every session!
